Care for Your Wooden Cutting Board through the Use of Cutting Board Oil

One of the durable and high quality cutting boards that you can purchase would be those that are made with bamboo.  Aside from being durable, these cutting boards also have an aesthetic appeal. Apparently, bamboo is denser than other types of wood that is why it is durable.  As long as you know how to properly take care of your cutting board, you will be guaranteed that it will last for a long time.


According to research, bacteria can’t easily thrive on wooden cutting boards however, since it is more porous than plastic, it can still contain bacteria for a long time. Therefore, it is very important to take good care of your wooden cutting board to prevent bacteria from thriving on it.


You need to apply the cutting board oil slightly warm using a soft cloth in the direction of the grain. By warming the oil, you can make sure that it will penetrate much deeper on the wood.


Let your wooden cutting board be soaked with cutting board oil for about 15 to 30 minutes. Usually, it is recommended that you apply at least 4 to 6 coats before you use the board.


Some do not know when to oil their cutting boards. The best time to oil your cutting board is when you see that your cutting board is already dry and you can see some cracking. In order to prevent further cracking, you should begin to apply oil to your cutting board. The oil will lock in the moisture of the cutting board and make sure that it won’t dry and crack.


Aside from locking in moisture and preventing dryness, applying oil to your cutting board can also help in preserving the aesthetic appeal of your cutting board.
When washing your cutting board, make sure that you are not going to completely immense it in water. You can scrub it and use soap and water to clean it but you should not dip it in water especially for a long time. Aside from that, this type of cutting board is also not recommended to be used in a dishwasher since it is made with wood.
